But through it all Schlapp remains focused on the mission at hand, working closely with White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as with the larger communications team in order to oversee policy implementations. So far, her focus has been on matters such as school safety, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require many interactions with reporters. The issue came up in March when she gained a sudden burst attention, when it became known that Schlapp would be a potential candidate to fill Hope Hicks's position as the director of communications. This fight was ugly. Schlapp's allies and Tony Sayegh started arguing with the media. Schlapp claimed that after the Washington Examiner ran a story that contained negative comments about Sayegh, she sat down for a chat with him.
